About The Tewecado Trust, Inc.

The Tewecado Trust, Inc., works in partnership with The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Poor to improve the living and learning environment for the Tarahumara and Mestizo children who live at and/or attend the Tewecado Mission School in Cerocahui, Chihuahua, Mexico.

The Tewecado Trust, Inc., provides funding, mentoring and technical expertise to support its belief that education is the key to self sufficiency in an increasingly global economy.

Operated totally by volunteers, The Tewecado Trust is a US-based not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible under US tax code 501(c)(3).

Basic Beliefs

  • We believe in the intrinsic worth of each child.
  • We believe in the importance of respect for diverse cultural traditions.
  • We believe in a strong respect for the laws of the United States and Mexico.

Goals of the Trust

  • To create a partnership with the school administration with an emphasis on local leadership.
  • To provide funds for capital improvements, educational materials, food, supplies, clothing, utilities, teacher training, scholarships, utilities, emergencies, and other items subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
  • To make every effort to represent the wishes of the donors.

Accomplishments

Since its founding in 2002, the Tewecado Trust has:

  • Funded a complete new water system, including nearly two miles of cross-town pipeline.
  • Created a school library with over 1,500 books - all in Spanish.
  • Provided scholarships for nine lay teachers to become certified.
  • Replaced three-fourths of the roof of the entire school and dormitory complex and is on its way to fund the final section.
  • Regularly provided funds for the purchase of food, medical supplies, clothing and other operating expenses.
